Another fantastic Guy Fawkes night forthe community at Cowal Golf Club tonight, organised by local community Police Officer and club captain Donald MacKay. Approximately a thousand people turned up to enjoy a feast of fire, foreworks and of course fabulous burgers from John Mather.

LOCAL health chiefs met in Lochgilphead today (Thursday) to discuss their proposed closures of Struan Lodge care home in Dunoon and Rothesay’s Thomson Court dementia day centre – and the closures have been ‘paused’ for six months to allow a ‘formal engagement and involvement process’.

LOCAL RUNNERS BENEFIT A GOOD CAUSE

A group of Dunoon women has completed a sponsored 5k run and raised several hundred pounds for various charities, including a local doctors’ surgery.

Seventeen women completed the run on June 5 which started at Kelvin Way, Glasgow.

Three of the women - Maria Carmichael, Seonaid Rae and Ann Robinson - put on their running shoes and raised £964.30, which has gone towards the purchase of an ECG machine for Argyll Street Surgery.

NEW HYDRO SCHEME AT COLINTRAIVE

A new hydro electric scheme was officially opened last week, and it aims to provide the equivalent energy per annum as providing power to 86 homes. The scheme is expected to have a lifespan of over 50 years. The scheme at Colintraive harnesses the natural flow of the Milton Burn.  The project will provide an electrical generating capacity of 830MWh per annum, which will enter the National Grid, providing green, renewable energy for use nationall. Vindicated - but angry

Dunoon independent councillor Michael Breslin has been cleared by the Standards Commission for Scotland of five of six charges laid against him.

 

The case against Cllr Breslin followed complaints made by four senior officers of Argyll and Bute Council.
