Local councillors, the media, and the contractors involved in its restoration, gathered at Dunoon Pier this morning to be given a guided tour of the refurbished pier buildings.

Councillor Dick Walsh, leader of Argyll and Bute Council, opened the new gates with a cheery 'Failte' to those assembled. It was worth braving the icy cold at the water's edge to see what had been achieved during the first phase of the work. The waiting room and the adjacent rooms are all freshly painted and are a far cry from the old delapidated ones that were familiar to ferry users, prior to the pier's closure. Visitors will not be disappointed at the new immaculate appearance of the pier.

A spokesman for the council said there would be a public event in April, more details to come.
