A potential bidder for the next ferry service contract between Dunoon and Gourock town centres has initiated an online survey of ferry users.

The survey, which can be found at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GourockDunoonFerry, is designed to collect information about the use of ferry services and what works well - or not - about them. It applies both to residents of Cowal and those who live elsewhere and who use the ferry services between Inverclyde and Cowal.

The survey will remain open until April 20.

The subsidised passenger ferry service between Gourock town centre and Dunoon town centre is currently operated by Argyll Ferries Ltd and the contract ends in 2017.

Questions include how often you use either of the ferry services – Western Ferries as a foot passenger or with a car, Argyll Ferries or the McGill’s bus service -  and why.

It also asks what forms of transport are used to get to the ferry terminals at either end of the journey.

It asks which ferry service is used most often, again asking the reasons why this might be, for instance to connect with the train service at Gourock.

It also asks which of the Argyll Ferries’ sailing times are most used by you and what is the most common purpose of those trips, as well as how important it is to the user that Argyll Ferries' service operates on a half hourly basis most of the time between 9am and 4pm Monday to Saturday.

Crucially the survey goes on to question how, if at all, use of the service between Gourock and Dunoon town centres has changed since Argyll Ferries began operating it in 2011?

You are also asked to describe what works well regarding cross Clyde ferry services, what this means to you as a user of the ferry services, and what could be improved.

The survey takes about ten minutes to complete
