Architeco in Dunoon is one of 32 Scottish companies that have been shortlisted for this year’s Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards following a record number of entries.



The sustainable design and architectural practice in Argyll Street has been shortlisted in the Environmental Product or Service and Micro Business Award categories in recognition for its cleverly designed, affordable and energy-efficient housing.


The company is owned by its founder Colin L Potter who set up in Dunoon three years ago, moving from Croftamie near Drymen and now employs four full-time architectural staff and one freelance along with a part-time administrator.


Colin told the Standard: “Our practice's whole aim and ethos is sustainable, ecologically minded design that makes a positive difference to the local and global environment, and we are delighted to be shortlisted.


“It's a real honour to be part of the awards, representing a small business in a Scotland-wide context, and we are really looking forward to meeting the judges and other competitors.


“As 2016 has been designated the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design by the Scottish Government, we are especially proud to receive recognition as one of 'Scotland's Greenest Businesses'.”


The company describe themselves as an award-winning, small architectural practice, brimming with ideas, skills and passion.


They are specialists in sustainable design and low-energy buildings, taking care of clients’ needs and those of the environment.


They believe that their role is to interpret clients’ ideas and requirements and turn these into practical, sustainable, energy-efficient buildings.


Their approach is relaxed, open and honest - this helps customers to understand every step of the design and building process, giving them the best opportunity for a stress-free build.


They are highly experienced and confident designers, and exceptionally well qualified when it comes to green buildings.


Architeco carries out all aspects of design through to planning applications and building warrant submissions.


They are Certified European Passive House Design enabling them to provide an extremely low energy design, including zero carbon.


As Certified PassivHous Consultancy they offer Passive House consultancy to other professionals.
