A storm so severe it has been given a name is forecast to batter Argyll and Bute – along with all of Scotland’s west coast - on Thursday, and into Friday, of this week.

Dubbed ‘Storm Abigail’, the weather event set to bring wind, rain and travel delays to the area. Ahead of this storm, there will be gusty showers across Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and northern England on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Abigail will track just north and west of Ireland and Scotland, unleashing soaking rain and strong winds from late morning and through the afternoon.

Wind gusts over 50mph (85 km/h) are expected - with gusts of 60 – 70mph (95-115 km/h) possible over northern and western Scotland, as well as Orkney and Shetland.

We wouldn’t recommend planning any ferry journeys on Thursday afternoon…
