A report published today (Friday) by local authority watchdog Audit Scotland says the Argyll and Bute Council needs to take a ‘more innovative’ approach to dealing with its financial challenges.

This comes as the council’s online consultation on low-level cuts, which ends on December 31, has been responded to be nearly 700 people.

The Audit Scotland report recommends the authority ‘look beyond reducing or withdrawing services and more fundamentally examine how it can do things differently’.

The report also recommends strengthening the council’s area committee structure – which the council is seeking to withdraw funding from.

Audit Scotland will consider the report on Thursday.

More, and reaction,  in next Friday’s Standard.
