Craig Howard (5), who was first in line to see the movie in his Darth Vader costume, searches for ‘rebel scum’.

THERE was an awakening of the force in Dunoon today as locals flocked to the cinema to watch the latest Star Wars movie - The Force Awakens.

In a special, packed, matinee performance, one of three daily showings at West Coast Cinemas Dunoon, fans queued in anticipation of watching the first Star Wars film in more than 10 years.

The verdict? “Tremendous,” said fitness instructor Ross Cooper (28), “it makes you forget about the Phantom Menace which is great. The feel of the film is perfect.”

General consensus from fans was that The Force Awakens is the start of a new era for the sci-fi franchise.

Ben Young, (34), managed to watch a special screening of the film last night and told the Standard: “The film is excellent. It’s a lot better than the last three, which let’s face it wouldn’t be hard.

“It finishes on a great cliff-hanger which sets everything up nicely for the next one. Even if you’re not a Star Wars fan it’s still a great film to watch.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is playing daily at West Coast Cinemas Dunoon at 2pm, 4,45pm and 7.45pm, (except for Thursday 24th).

Craig was first to get a ticket because I let him go before me, so that he would remember it.
