The Braes restaurant is fully booked for Christmas lunch but, unknown to patrons, their Christmas lunch will help feed others in need.

Thinking of a way to give something back into the community directors of the Braes came up with the idea of providing Christmas dinners to those who might otherwise go without.

Jennifer McArthur and Jamie Merritt then approached the local foodbank to see if there was a need to offer Christmas dinners – and the idea snowballed, with the foodbank, together with other local agencies, identifying around a hundred people who would otherwise not be having a special lunch this yuletide.

The directors told the Standard: “We were fully booked for Christmas day and decided to take the profit out of the festive lunches and provide meals for those who otherwise would go without.

“It has meant a phenomenal amount of work and our staff all agreed with the idea – even coming in at 6am to help with all the packaging required.”

Staff have given up their own time to assist in this very generous donation.

The meals, provided in foil containers ready to heat in recipients’ own homes, will be distributed by foodbank volunteers on Christmas eve so that a hot and festive lunch can be enjoyed.

A foodbank spokesperson said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by the Braes. It will make such a difference this Christmas.”
