TWO cars were caught in a 300-ton landslip on the Rest and be Thankful early this morning (above).

There were, however, no reports of casualties.

The landslip closed the road in both directions, and a smaller landslip – at the Spanish Steps near Ardgartan – made access to the Old Military Road relief route impossible.

Work continues to clear the smaller slip to allow the relief road to open.

The slip on the Rest took place at the same spot as a December 5 slip – but this time the containment netting did not catch all the debris.

There was also ferry disruption this morning, and flooding on several roads made travel difficult.

In Inverclyde the A8 remains closed due to flooding in several places, and train services between Gourock and Glasgow remain cancelled.

Scotrail is unable to operate a replacement bus because of flooding on the roads.
