More money for Rest
“The Scottish Government is committed to keeping Argyll and Bute open for business,” said transport minister Derek Mackay (above), speaking at a meeting of the A83 taskforce, held at Arrochar today, Monday, to announce further funding to help reduce problems at the landslip prone Rest and be Thankful.
Last week Argyll and Bute Council called for a permanent fix for the route ‘as a matter of urgency’.
The minister pledged a further £6.6 million for the A83, including just over £4 million for further landslip mitigation measures, which include further enhancements to the debris netting and widening of the Old Military Road to add ‘resilience’ to the local diversion route.
The minister told the Standard: “We are focusing on mitigation and diversionary routes. Over time we have looked at other options but we keep coming back to these.”
However, he added: “I am open minded to any proposal that is put to me.”
More in Friday’s Standard.
