A man died and another was taken to a decompression chamber after diving off the Cowal coast of Loch Fyne yesterday (Sunday).

Police Scotland confirmed that a 40-year-old man, thought to be a member of a sub aqua club based in Bathgate, West Lothian, died after diving near Lephin Chapel, by Otter Ferry.

His diving partner, understood to be a member of the same club, was taken by Coastguard helicopter to the hyperbaric chamber at Dunstaffnage Marine Laboratory near Oban.

Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that two Dunoon-based road ambulances and Helimed, with its Glasgow-based trauma team, attended the incident.

HM Coastguard’s Southampton-based press office confirmed that its helicopter, along with Dunoon Coastguard Rescue Team, was tasked by the Scottish Ambulance Service to attend.

More in Friday’s Standard.
